Documentary photography captures genuine moments as they happen and I really love photographing the ‘behind the scenes’ aspect of the bride getting ready. It’s a fantastic chance to see all of the details coming together. After months of planning, you, your bridesmaids, your flowers, shoes, accessories and dresses are all finally in the same place at the same time!
And of course it’s often a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. The atmosphere is one of excitement mixed with nervousness, laughs with your bridesmaids and poignant moments with your family. While you’re getting your hair and make-up done, I’m on the sidelines using a combination of lenses to capture the flurry of activity as well as get some beautiful close up detail shots. These editorial style images are scene setters and memory joggers, helping you remember those fleeting couple of hours that pass by so incredibly quickly!
I always make time to capture the build up at the ceremony location too, photographing the excitement of the guests arriving and capturing decorative details. Its also a great time to photograph the Groom, Best Man and Ushers and their range of emotions! I always think it’s so special for you both to get to see the parts of the day you weren’t there for. There’s always a tangible excitement at the ceremony location that is wonderful to capture. And a real highlight of course is to photograph the arrival of the bridal party.
